Girls Season 5 Episode 8 Review: Homeward Bound

And thus the Frannah romance chapter in the book of Hannah has come to an end.

Right?

Girls Season 5 Episode 8 saw Hannah finally make the decision she's been gradually inching towards nearly all season, breaking up with secret-jerk Fran and doing it in the Hannah-iest way imaginable.

Jessa and Baby "Sample" - Girls Season 5 Episode 8

Based on the way Girls Season 5 Episode 7 ended, with an incredibly wounded Hannah finally realizing that Adam and Jessa were now together, I would've expected Hannah to turn needy and glom onto Fran at all costs – despite the fact that she could hardly stand him, at this point.

Had Hannah not found out the Adam/Jessa news at that point, I'm sure the Hannah/Fran relationship would have ended in the closing moments of "Hello Kitty." Instead, Hannah presumably stuck it out a bit longer (it's unclear how much time has passed between "Hello Kitty" and "Homeward Bound), but reached her breaking point after realizing she was trapped in a tiny RV with Fran for three freaking months.

What's completely bizarre, but ultimately very realistic, is that Fran was perfectly content to be in a relationship with Hannah while she was palpably unhappy. This was emblematic of the fundamental disconnect between the two of them. They were never going to work out, and so they didn't. It took Hannah long enough, but halle-freakin'-lujah for her finally taking the initiative and ending it.

Hannah running away from Fran through the many doors of the rest stop public restroom was a hilarious gag and also an obvious metaphor for their relationship. He was chasing her, and she was trying to escape. She wanted so badly to be away from Fran that she forced him to abandon her at a rest stop while she was wearing her pajamas.

Oh, Hannah. Obviously, there are a million and one better ways that she could have done this, but she's Hannah, so of course she chose the worst possible break-up scenario.

Fran flipped out at hearing she was breaking up with him, and freaked out even harder when she refused to allow him to drive her back to the city.

After Marnie blew her off, since she was in the studio recording with Desi (who was actively ignoring her when not performing, on Lisa Bonet's orders), Hannah called Jessa. Jessa also couldn't help her out – she was with Adam, babysitting his niece.

Hannah's realization scene in "Hello Kitty" couldn't be topped, but Hannah outright saying that Jessa and Adam were having sex was a great small moment. Hannah's pain was, again, palpable, and I love that we got to see the more human side of Jessa.

Despite what she wants to believe, Jessa actually does care about Hannah. Otherwise, she wouldn't be so anxious and worried about whether Adam believes they're doing something wrong. She wouldn't be actively trying to convince herself that she's in the clear and shouldn't feel bad.

Of course, it now seems as though the Jessa/Adam relationship may be going the way of Frannah.

After discovering that Caroline had fled the home she shared with Laird and their daughter (affectionately nicknamed "Sample") due to her hidden post-partum depression, Laird took off and asked Adam to watch over his daughter.

I really, really hope that Laird hasn't gone off on a drug binge. Caroline and Laird were adorable and quirky and great together, and for him to fall off the wagon because she's gone AWOL due to her mental health crisis would just be utterly tragic. Tragedy on top of tragedy.

There are only two episodes left this season, and a lot is set to unravel, but I really hope this Caroline PPD storyline is addressed before the season wraps.

Naturally, the stress of his sister's disappearance and being left to watch a baby was weighing heavy on Adam's mind. Jessa's willful ignorance of all things baby-related wasn't helping much either.

Jessa: Why aren't you helping me?
Adam: You're an adult. She's a baby. Why do you need more help than a baby?

This was a completely fantastic scene and a fantastic bit of dialogue that opened up so many potential cracks in this otherwise-promising romantic pairing.

Adam's priorities may just be elsewhere. If Laird also disappears, and Adam is made to watch over his niece as a semi-permanent guardian (I can totally see the show going there), Jessa may not be able to handle that. She's just not ready for it, much as she cares for Adam.

Meanwhile back in wherever-the-hell Upstate New York, Hannah napped in a grassy knoll beneath a rest stop sign and waited for Ray. When he picked her up, she inexplicably decided to reward him with road head, in an awkward, deeply uncomfortable scene that made me feel like I need to rinse my eyeballs out with bleach.

Rannah is not a 'ship I want any part of, no sir. It's also clearly not a 'ship they're going anywhere with, thank goodness.

After causing Ray to crash his brand new coffee truck, they wound up stranded. Antsy Hannah was not willing to wait to be rescued by Ray's trusted mechanic, so she hitchhiked with a random stranger named Hector who pulled over for her.

This led to one of the most heartwarming scenes in Girls history. Seriously, I mean it.

Hannah spotted a gun in the back of Hector's car and initially thought she was having a moment of stranger-danger. This led to a very funny safety-call with a totally oblivious Marnie, who suggested Hannah pretend she needed to pee and make a run for it. Hannah, being the most awkward human on earth, couldn't pull that off and wound up peeing in a jug instead, to Marnie's incredulity.

Lucky for Hannah, Hector was harmless. In fact, he was just a guy escaping an abusive relationship back in Nevada and looking to start over. Hector's situation was an excellent foil for the predicament Hannah found herself in.

Obviously, Hector's situation was much worse, but the parallel was there and (hopefully) put Hannah's relatively not-so-bad situation in perspective for her.

Hannah: You're gonna like it, it's a good place to live. There's a lot of different kinds of food. Good pizza.
Hector: It's a good place to start over.
Hannah: Yeah.

This was a fully unironic, uplifting moment, and some incredible, subtle acting from both Lena Dunham and Guillermo Diaz, who played Hector. Great way to close out this installment.

Other thoughts:

  • Lisa Bonet was amazing as Desi's friend/new ladylove, a specialist in rage issues. And clearly, Marnie has no rage. She's "cool as a fucking cucumber," okay?
  • Also, Lisa Bonet's character's name – Tandace Moncrief. Perfectly terrible.
  • Desi sucks. The fact that I dislike him more than Marnie is really a testament to his portrayer's acting abilities.
  • Shosh was in very little of "Homeward Bound," but she, too, is bound for home. She's back in New York. Her two brief scenes, the episode-opener and her sushi restaurant confrontation with her ex-boyfriend Scott over her potentially trying to get on welfare, were both fantastic. Shosh frustrated and screaming in the airport, scaring everyone, was hilarious.
  • Hannah briefly laughed at Hector recounting the ways he'd been abused by his girlfriend, which was a really screwed up moment. But it was clearly meant in a "Hannah is just the worst" way and not a "this is something that should be belittled" way. It was self-aware terribleness.
  • One more time for the readers in the back: Ray and Hannah. Road head. NEVER AGAIN.

Girls Season 5 Finale Review: Hannah Forever

$
0
0

This was a near-perfect end to a very strong (perhaps the single strongest) season of Girls.

Girls Season 5 Episode 9 and Girls Season 5 Episode 10, airing back to back, were perfect complements and tied up each of the girls' (and boys') storylines nicely, while introducing plenty of material for next season. I, for one, can't wait until Girls Season 6 premieres in a year.

Shoshanna Tries to Help - Girls

There's a lot of ground to cover (it is a two-parter, after all), so it might be best to go character-by-character.

Elijah

Elijah spent all season trying desperately to win the love of a man who didn't love him back. Elijah is my favorite character, so I basically want to punch Dill stupidface Harcourt in his dumb bald head right now.

As I predicted way back when, during my review of Girls Season 5 Episode 4, something was just off about Dill. It was unsurprising when, during the events of Girls Season 5 Episode 7, Elijah found out (in the most unglamorous way imaginable) that he wasn't the only man in Dill's life.

There was something just off about Dill from the beginning. He was charming – almost too charming. Elijah, being fairly perceptive, realized that this was a mask. During the finale, he accurately called Dill out on wanting more out of a relationship than he was currently getting, with his juggling act of all of these men.

Dill, I know you would never admit this to yourself, but don't you want to be with somebody who sees you for you? Beyond all this. I'm the only person who's gonna be honest with you about your bad jokes and the fact that, no, you don't look better with a shaved head. And if you say your private life is private and go and see Cher in Las Vegas, that's not the same thing as coming out of the closet. But all those guys you have around, all those fucking guys you just have... they're only going to tell you what you want to hear, and they're going to cater to you because of your fame and the stuff that you have. I don't want your stuff. You're going to end up with nothing, and you deserve everything. Dill, don't you want to be with someone who sees you for you? Don't you want a boyfriend-someone? Who's honest?

Elijah

Elijah's heartfelt speech to Dill was utterly spectacular. Serious props to Andrew Rannells with that scene, which was delivered with as much openness and vulnerability as the incredibly strong writing deserved. Much as I despise Dill, Corey Stoll's silent but visibly moved reactions were also flawless.

Which made it almost unbearably painful when Dill broke Elijah's heart in the most vicious way possible.

Now, it was pretty clear that Dill was genuinely thankful for Elijah "opening his eyes and his heart" and didn't mean to crush his now-former beau. Regardless, hearing that Dill didn't believe that Elijah was the man for him tore Elijah up.

In the second part of the finale, he was visibly disheveled and completely out of sorts. He and Loreen commiserated over their misfortunes on a street corner, getting drunk, which was humorous but also incredibly depressing.

At the very least, Elijah has reached rock bottom and can begin next season starting to climb out of the emotional well he's found himself in. Perhaps Dill's harsh but ultimately truthful edict (that Elijah is "not serious enough" for him) will break through, and Elijah will find a calling much as Shosh recently has. Speaking of whom –

Shoshannah

Shosh spent the first part of Girls Season 5 in Japan, struggling to pretend that she'd found her ideal life. Ultimately, Shoshannah couldn't remain behind in Japan because she realized she was aimless.

Her journey this season was about realizing that fulfillment wasn't about where she was, but rather about having a real purpose in her life.

Shosh wound up in the best place, out of the four main girls, by the end of the season finale. Each of the girls hit their rock bottom at various points throughout the season.

Shosh arguable hit her rock bottom earlier than most, when the bottom fell out of her perfect Japanese life midseason. For that reason, by the time the finale rolled around, she was ready to pick herself up and start again.

For her, that meant taking initiative and offering to turn things around at Ray's, which was struggling with the competition from Helvetica. And by struggling I mean, nearly out of business and about to be converted to a billiards store.

After a glorious exchange with Ray, in which he subtly slid in the Hannah-gave-him-a-failed-blowjob reveal, Shosh set out on scoping out the competition in order to figure out a re-branding that could help Ray's compete with the uber-hipster coffee shop.

This led to one of the funniest moments in the finale, as Shosh went to Helvetica "incognito" and ended up fielding found words that were thrown at her by the ultra-PC employees of the rival business for her "writing a found poem" cover story.

By the end of the finale, Shosh has succeeded in resounding fashion. Business is booming at Ray's, the New York Times Style section is stopping by to interview Hermie, and the two do an adorable little dance during closing time to celebrate the change of fortune.

Marnie/Desi/Ray

This was probably the only part of the finale that didn't sit right with me at all. After having a "love dream" about Ray (specifically about Ray-as-a-little-girl), in which she's combing out his long-luxurious hair, Marnie realized she was in love with Ray.

Or, at the very least, she decided that that's what the dream meant and ran with it.

Ray and Marnie's relationship was always one of those things that you either loved or hated in the series. Personally, I hate it.

These two are incredibly mismatched, and I was still holding out hope that Ray would either find someone more in tune with him (and more his age) or would reunite with Shosh down the road when she'd matured more.

Instead, perhaps in a reaction against Desi's newfound relationship with the unbearably peaceful Tandace, Marnie showed up at the tail-end of the first part of the finale to declare her love to Ray.

Except "declare" is really the wrong word here, isn't it?

Marnie: I had a love dream about you.
Ray: What the fuck is a love dream?
Marnie: I love you. It can't be you. It just... It can't. It can't be you.
Ray: I think it might be me, Marn. I really do.

Ugh. Just, ugh.

After seeking Ray out to personally inform him of her impending divorce from Desi during "Hello Kitty," I can't say I didn't see this coming. Regardless, I hate it.

Based on how this scene unfolded, I also legitimately can't tell whether we're supposed to believe Marnie's love is genuine. I do completely believe that, for whatever inexplicable reason, Ray is in love with Marnie.

I don't quite believe that Marnie is in love with Ray. Mostly because she can't quite believe it either (see above quote).

Despite hating this development, and hating that all of the character development that Marnie would seem to have undergone during Girls Season 5 Episode 6, I'm very interested to see what's going to come of their relationship after being on tour together, along with Desi.

I also can't say that Marnie going after Ray immediately after saying she needed to be alone wasn't in character. This is very much a Marnie move.

Speaking of Desi: he is so unbearably gross. Getting a blowjob from that extremely young groupie was perhaps the most despicable thing we've seen all season. And this is a show in which the main character is Hannah freakin' Horvath, so that's saying something.

Adam and Jessa

The cracks that began to appear while Adam and Jessa were taking care of baby Sample during Laird's break caused the whole foundation to crumble during the finale.

Beyond Jessa's mild disdain (or, at the very least, profound indifference) towards babies, her inability to stop obsessing over Hannah hating the two of them really got to Adam.

This was one of those situations where you can't truly blame either of them – sure, Adam was being insensitive, but as far as he knew, Hannah and Jessa weren't that good of friends to begin with. So he had no problem proclaiming that Hannah is out of their lives forever.

Apparently, Adam was very wrong about that.

Y'know, people hate me. I'm a hateable kind of person. I don't know why, I can't help it, maybe it's because I have a big ass and good hair but I know, I know that I have principles and one thing I don't do is steal people's boyfriends. But you ruin that. Don't you see that?! I'll never forgive you. I will NEVER forgive you for that. We could die in the same bed and I will never forgive you.

Jessa

This scene was great for so many reasons. It was one of the strongest of the finale, and of the season as a whole.

Both Jemima Kirke and Adam Driver are great actors and they played off of one another beautifully in this brutal exchange. The characters of Jessa and Adam are both fiery and passionate. So this scene wasn't truly surprising.

The brutality of it was a little shocking, admittedly. They ultimately destroyed the entire apartment in a massive, drag-out fight, which was an excellent call-back to the beginning of the season when Jessa claimed that they would destroy one another.

As much as I enjoyed this pairing, Jessa's condemnation of Adam, her admittance that she'd never forgive him for making her a boyfriend-stealer and causing the rift between her and Hannah, was wonderful. Each of the characters has had their moment this season, the moment that forced the audience to feel for these flawed, complicated humans. This was Jessa's.

Jessa's distress over realizing that Hannah would likely never speak to her again was heartbreaking, and it was real. This scene humanized Jessa more than the previous five seasons of aloof bitchiness combined did.

Of course, these two ended their fight by having sex amidst the wreckage (so fitting), so it seems as though a straightforward breakup is not going to work for these two, next season.

Hannah

Finally, our "hero" (for lack of a better word), Hannah Horvath.

Hannah had a great arc this season, cutting loose a man who, on paper, appeared perfect, but was ultimately not perfect for her. And ultimately, she was right. Fran was kind of a dick.

If you have any doubt about whether we are meant to believe Fran is a jerk, kindly go back and rewatch the very first scene of the finale. Those were not the words of a man we are meant to sympathize with.

In the first part of the finale, Hannah spent her time with Tally Schifrin, her old friend-nemesis-classmate who we've met earlier in the series. Tally, a successful author, served as a living reminder of all the ways Hannah believed she's failed as a human, as a writer, etc.

Tally encouraged Hannah to cut loose, during the finale, and in doing so they both opened up to one another.

Tally [about Jessa]: Yeah, I mean, from what I remember, she has really amazing hair.
Hannah: She has amazing hair, she's an amazing person. She's just not a person I can have in my life right now. And the worst part is, like, I miss them both, you know? I love them both so much, I don't know who to warn about the other one. And I could do what my instinct is, which is run around and destroy things and scream and try to throw myself in front of a van to make a point but end of the day, that would just be me fulfilling all of their expectations of me and I would love to surprise someone sometimes.

Hannah, notably, confessed that she'd just dated Fran to get over Adam, who was the only man she's ever really loved (ouch). Tally, for her part, admitted that she had her own struggles, and that being a successful writer wasn't as sunshiney and blissful as Hannah imagined it was.

I need to see how other people see me, because it's the only way that I can see myself.

Tally

This scene was easily the best of the first half of the finale. Great performances by guest star Jenny Slate (who is fabulous, as always) and by Lena Dunham. I am truly thankful that they didn't undercut the power of that scene by having them decide to spontaneously sleep together.

This breakthrough with Tally (and subsequent run-in with Adam and Jessa, which was awkward for them, and hilarious for an extremely stoned Tally and Hannah) was the first part of Hannah's healing process.

The second part occurred during the later half of the finale, in which Hannah's storyline revolved around her preparations for a performance at The Moth, a storytelling competition.

Sure, there were brief humorous moments during this sequence – like Loreen telling an impassioned story about the girl who stole her own boyfriend in college getting hit by a car and dying (and wishing the same on Jessa) and Elijah putting her name in the bag twice – but for the most part, the scene was played completely straight.

Going in, that scene could have gone many different ways, and I'd considered all of them. Hannah could have bombed the performance, giving an awkward speech and being uncomfortably clapped off the stage. I wouldn't put it past her.

Instead, this scene was a moment of triumph for Hannah. Despite how you feel about her, it's easy to admit that the situation she's found herself in is a pretty crappy one.

For that reason, Hannah's catharsis is an incredibly relatable and fantastic moment, and the best way to cap off the season.

I'm Hannah forever. No matter what I do, no matter whether I start a new nuclear missile crisis with my emotions, or I sit back and chill and give someone a fruit basket, I can only control the mayhem that I create around me. But the crazy thing is, when I showed up, I heard screaming and I heard my name and I heard madness. And I knew that I was free. At least for tonight. That's all. Thank you.

Hannah

Other thoughts:

  • One of the Helvetica employees is played by Lena Dunham's sister, Grace Dunham, who identifies as genderqueer. If there was any doubt that the political correctness jabs were tongue-in-cheek, I think that information would probably settle it.
  • Hermie taking the anti-hipster theme at Ray's far too seriously was hilarious.
  • Marnie being unable to orgasm unless she's having sex with someone she hates was a fantastic detail. As was Elijah being aware of this fact, for some reason.
  • I, like Adam, was fearful that Laird had ran off intending to go get high in the aftermath of Caroline's disappearance, so I really appreciated that they specifically showed Adam checking Laird carefully to be sure he was high before handing over the baby. Adam's love for that baby is maybe the best thing about this whole damn season.
  • Tad going to visit the man he went on a date with earlier in the season was lovely. The looks they exchanged! Oh my goodness. Heartwarming.
  • The closing montage was flawless, as we panned around to see all of the characters as they ended the season. What a great wrap-up and summary of where things have ended up.

What did you think of the finale? Chime in and leave your thoughts in the comments below and remember to watch Girls online to relive this season!

13 Characters Who Just Need to Chill, Man

$

Yes, these characters need to chill.

In some states, a specific type of chilling has become legal, so maybe these folks could take a walk on the wild side and see what it is that draws the stoners to their particular lifestyle. Olivia Pope for instance, needs more than the wine she currently drinks, because that made her a killer. Whoops!

We're not saying anyone needs to go overboard, but just to give it a rest already and chill the frak out.

See if you agree!

1. Lucifer - Lucifer

Lucifer lucifer
Lucifer just totally needs to chill. We all know you’re hot, sexy, and smart, but you don’t need to keep reminding everyone of it 24/7. We all see it with our own eyes. There’s no comparison. You’re the man. So cool your heels and chill.

2. Zoom - The Flash

Zoom the flash
Zoom on The Flash just totally needs to chill, because being the fastest person on earth really isn't all that. For any of us, being that fast is good enough and we won't know the freakin' difference between one speedster and the next. So just chill, man!

3. Paige - The Americans

Paige the americans
Paige is sometimes too smart for her own good. She is too curious. She doesn't need to know everything all at once. While I think she finally learned that when she realized she was being forced to keep Pastor Tim as a friend, now that she knows what her parents do, she just needs to pull back a little, hang with her teenage friends. Chill out.

4. Rip Hunter - DC's Legends of Tomorrow

Rip hunter dcs legends of tomorrow
Rip Hunter is always so serious, but he makes more mistakes on missions than most of the future Legends. He didn't even allow himself to revisit the Old West, where he had lived a good portion of his adult life. Everything isn't life or death. He needs to stop clenching his teeth and expecting the worst, because as a result it always happens. Relax, it won't kill you. But the stress might.

5. Carol - The Walking Dead

Carol the walking dead
Carol really needs to do a little gardening for herself. She's been full of anxiety lately, and seeing as there are no laws left to rally the 420 troops, it would really help her frame of mind when it came to dealing with the fact that killing is now a fact of Carol's life. She already digs cigarettes, she might as well go au natural.

6. Olivia - Scandal

Olivia scandal
Olivia might benefit from a little medicinal marijuana to keep her from bashing the lights out of people she no longer cares are walking this earth. At the very least, she can tone down the violence. Surely there are more chill ways to take someone out that she's witnessed in her line of work.

21 Shows with Serious Girl Power

Now these are squad goals.

Through everything, these girls stick together and realize their relationship with each other is more important than some guy with top ramen hair that would probably smell like a lake of mixed colognes if he were real.

Some of them even save the others' lives, repeatedly, and have such a true sense of trust that their exceed the limitation of friendship and become sisters, or are actually sisters to begin with.

There's one thing we can count on for sure: they stick together. If they're friends. Otherwise, you can be sure they will try their best to ruin lives.

Like Emily Thorne, for instance. Her and Victoria were far from friends, but they are two of the strongest women on television.

Below are 21 of our favorite girl power TV shows.

1. Pretty Little Liars

Pretty little liars
Pretty Little Liars follows Hanna, Aria, Spencer, and Emily through their unbelievable and relentless torment and torture at the hands (or texts) of their infamous villain: A. A has been revealed numerous times, yet always comes back stronger, with more power and a rapidly quenched thirst for their blood. They've stuck together through the worst of times, along with the friend Alison and frenemy Mona, and save each others' lives countless times.

2. Orange is the New Black

Orange is the new black
Everyone's heard about Orange is the New Black. When Piper Chapman is sentenced to 15 months in prison, she's acquianted with a crowd of interesting, fiesty, fierce, and sometimes destructive women that can only rely on each other in confines of the messed up justice system. Each has their own story, their own crime, and their own methods of dealing with prison life, but they come together (never all together, somebody might die) and have become friends.

3. Scream Queens

Scream queens
What we do without the Chanels? Chanel, Chanel #3, and Chanel #5, are one of the tightest knit group of friends on television. They accuse each other of murder, then help cover it up to protect them, and save their lives. Even though they're all bitches, let's be honest, here's hoping they find a way to take crazy Hester back to the nuthouse in Scream Queens Season 2 this Fall.

4. Mistresses

Mistresses
Mistresses follows Joss, Karen, April, and formerly Savi, as they live drama-filled, sometimes disasterous lives in Los Angeles. Karen follows her heart into the most scandalous places, including a relationship with her patient and an intense polyamorous relationship in Season 3, while Joss is the free spirit who strikes up a relationship with her sister Savi's ex-husband, which is why Savi left the show. April is a mom, who is just finding her passion after putting it on hold to raise her daughter, and deals with a husband's betrayal. These girls stick together through the most scandalous times and will risk nothing to save the ones they love.

5. Rizzoli & Isles

Rizzoli and isles
Rizzoli and Isles, the perfect crime-solving team. Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles found a friendship in their dark line of work: Jane as a homocide detective and Maura as the coroner. With Rizzoli's street smarts and Isles' book smarts, they've helped each other grow and are unstoppable.

6. Girls

Girls
Created by and starring Lena Dunham, Girls follows four girls (Hannah, Marnie, Jessa, and Shoshanna) through their lives of ups and downs in New York City. They can count on each other in the hardest times as they attempt to figure out who they are and what they want from life, while dealing with hectic love lives.

It's hard to believe the summer is already here, but at least we ended the season with some major badass battles to tide us over until the fall.

This spring we were blown away by some of the most over-the-top fight scenes and brutal brawls we've ever seen from our favorite comic book shows. I don't know about you guys, but some of those scenes made my eyes pop out of my head!

Other shows got our attention, too with amazing stunt work that just left our mouths hanging open. We should all go to Jane's School of Acrobatics! I wouldn't mind learning some of her tricks, would you?

Even a simple slap made us gasp!

But, the best are always those knock 'em down, drag 'em out fights that only couples can do.

What were your favorite fights of the spring? Check out our picks below and let us know if you agree!

1. The Good Wife - A Slap is Worth a Thousand Words

The good wife a slap is worth a thousand words
After Alicia brought out evidence that Diane's husband Kurt may have had an affair in court, mortifying Diane, we aren't surprised that Diane took advantage of an opportunity to give Alicia what was coming to her. We guess that's the end of their partnership, right?

2. Blindspot - Can't Keep This Woman Down

Blindspot cant keep this woman down
Pretty much anytime Jane has her hands tied behind her back, to a chair, etc. But, most specifically, when she escaped by doing a flip to break the chair, and then got into an epic fist fight with Oscar. The stunt work was far beyond anything we've seen.

3. The 100 - Goodbye Ice Queen

The 100 goodbye ice queen
While she could have chosen someone to fight Roan on her behalf, Lexa showed that she wasn't afraid of anyone. No one fights for her, and damn, no one should either. Lexa kicked ass, and instead of ending the fight by killing Roan, she ended it by killing the Ice Queen. Lexa's one badass heda.

4. DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Vandal Savage Smackdown

Dcs legends of tomorrow vandal savage smackdown
Savage didn't need a three tier pileup to rid the universe of his annoyance, but it sure was fun watching it play out. It was a very nicely edited segment. The fight scenes on LoT have been the best across The CW/DC universe this season, and we hope that continues. We don't think it would be cheap to use this tactic again in some form, either.

5. Girls - My Best Friend

Girls my best friend
Adam and Jessa really let loose when they started fighting about Jessa's friendship with Hanna. She loves Hanna and will never really be able to get over the fact she became one of those girls who dates her friend's ex-boyfriend. Even the mention of Hanna sets Adam off and the two start going at each other and the apartment like crazies. In the end, the apartment is destroyed and the two have had angry makeup sex, but it's unclear what either of them really think about it.

6. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D - Hell Hath No Fury

Agents of shield hell hath no fury
After breaking Hive's mind control, Daisy had to deal with immense, incredible, shattering guilt for her actions, and she begged Hive to take her back. His control was like a drug. But she was cured, and it wasn't possible, which unleashed Daisy's rage, and the pair dueled with their powers and incredible fighting skills.

21 Characters Who Are Just Jerks

$

0

They say art imitates life, and just like in real life there are jerks on TV too.

It doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman, because everyone on TV (and in real life) can be a jerk sometimes.

Some of these characters are jerks year-round, others only part time, and some may have made a bad choice one time, but it made them look like a jerk anyway.

Check out our list of jerks below and see if you agree with our picks!

1. Louis Litt - Suits

Louis suits
Louis is the epitome of selfish and arrogant. He's a know-it-all who hates everybody. He’s the leader of the "woe is me" club and thinks no one likes him. He's right. They don't, and we don’t. He truly is the Moby Dick of all jerks.

2. Lucious Lyon - Empire

Lucious lyon empire
From the very beginning Lucious has shown how much of a jerk he can be. Not only is he controlling and selfish, he’s arrogant and extraordinarily mean. He loves to play favorites with his kids, and then turn on them in a flash.

He lies whenever necessary, and will leave people in a lurch if it suits him. He’s horrible to women and has betrayed everyone around him at one time or another, and we’ve only just finished Season 2! As hard as we tried, there's not much to like about this jerk.

3. Corky Corcoran - The Night Manager

Corky the night manager
Corky was suspicious of Jonathan Pine the minute he showed up to save Danny from kidnappers, and he let Pine know it in some not so nice words and ways throughout the entire series.

But, his jerkiest moment was when he got drunk at lunch and made the biggest scene ever when he verbally attacked a waiter, made a snarky toast to Jed, grabbed Pine’s butt, and called his boss an idiot.

Tom Hollander took the word “jerk” to new levels with this outstanding performance.

4. Black Jack Randall - Outlander

Black jack randall outlander
Jerk might actually be a compliment for this jerk since he may possibly be the worst of the worst. There aren’t enough words to describe how much we loathe this guy. He’s arrogant, sadistic, and absolutely despicable. He’s done unspeakable things to both children and adults and is a menace to society.

5. Felicity Smoak - Arrow

Felicity smoak arrow
Sure Felicity is a fan favorite, but that doesn’t mean she’s not immune to being a jerk sometimes. When she found out Oliver had a son, she wasn’t very sympathetic, not because of William, but because Oliver never told her about the boy. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t Oliver’s choice not to tell her, she still ended her relationship with him anyway.

Her biggest jerk moment of this whole scenario came during a later episode when she told Dig that he was “one illegitimate child away from a really awesome Oliver Queen impersonation.”

Really, Felicity? Being a jerk is not your style, but that was a pretty jerky thing for you to say.

6. Marnie Michaels - Girls

Marnie michaels girls
How much of a jerk is Marnie? Let us count the ways: She’s judgemental. She’s a phony. She uses people. She’s a control freak. She’s two-faced. She's annoying. She’s arrogant. She's horrible. Need we say more?

9 Season Finales That Finished with a Flourish

There are a LOT of finales on TV.

That much we know, but some of them just managed to come out further ahead than others.

These finales were very well acted and had great writing.

Have a look at the gallery below.

1. Supergirl

Supergirl
Supergirl ended on a surprisingly happy note, especially for a superhero show. Kara was promoted and addressed by Cat with her real name. James and Kara finally expressed their feelings for each other. Kara took down Non, leaving National City safe for the time being. But there were just as many questions, too. What will Season 2 bring, and how will the move to The CW affect the show?

2. iZombie

Izombie
This was hands down the best finale I have ever seen. They did a fantastic job of building the zombie/Max Rager plot in the last half of the second season and it all exploded in a crazy full zombie apocalypse showdown. Clive was finally brought in on all of the truths that the gang had been shielding him from and when all hope seemed to be lost, an army of zombie killers swooped in! The twist? They are acutally zombies who plan to take over Seattle! Also, the finale bonus: a random zombie playing a Rob Thomas song as he and a few others eat real Rob Thomas' brain. A wonderfully gorey touch!

3. Girls

Girls
Girls Season 5 was beautifully done all around, but the finale sent the show off the air at a great place. This was especially true of Hannah, who met up with an old friend whose success inspired her to revisit writing. That lead Hannah to a wonderful, insightful moment of clarity for a storytelling competition which really drove home how much these characters have grown over the season. Whether they got married (and divorced), lived in Japan or just found something new within themselves, it was the best of their journies to date.

4. Jane the Virgin

Jane the virgin
They never fail to deliver a great finale, two years in a row. Pulling out all the stops of Jane's wedding, Sin Rotro surprises, idenity theft, a possible main-character death, AND a surprise pregnancy, Jane the Virgin showed that it's possible to leave literally every character with their own individual cliffhanger.

5. Grey's Anatomy

Greys anatomy
No, this wasn't necessarily the most shocking finale we've ever seen, but Grey's Anatomy Season 12 delivered a solid, satisfying season finale that included some happy moments, a cliffhanger, and a clear turning point for the show's main character.

6. Nashville

Nashville
Besides the obviously painful cliffhanger, Nashville wrapped up most of the stories it had started. Scarlett and Gunnar reunited with a passionate on-stage kiss. Rayna and Deacon were reunited with their eldest daughter, Maddie, after she had emancipated from them, but she decided she wasn't ready to be an adult yet. Layla was taken down for her manipulation of Avery, and her attempts to ruin Juliette's life, while Will embraced being gay and finally stood up to Cynthia Davis, who criticized his appearance on her show as the "domestic terrorism that is his homosexual agenda.

17 Couples Who Need A Vacation...Right Now!

You know when you tell your friends, "I really need a vacation!!!"

Well, we've been noticing that some couples on TV don't tell their friends that often enough, because their love lives are badly in need of a little break from the action.

Alright. We admit it's hard to take a break from the zombie apocalypse or the Battle of Culloden. Some couples have less than stellar luck when it comes to time off, but the others on this list? They may not have an excuse.

Calling all travel agents! Let's start booking couples retreats now. Where would YOU send each of these duos for a well-deserved getaway?

1. Maggie and Glenn - Fear the Walking Dead

Maggie and glenn fear the walking dead
It’s not like Maggie and Glenn can just take off to the Bahamas or anything like that, but wouldn’t it be nice if they could? All couples need a little bit of ‘we” time before a baby arrives, and these two are no different. Only they are because they’re living in a world that is way different than it used to be and where there’s danger at every turn. These two need to find a safe little area (by a beach would be great) where no one will bother them so that they can just forget about the world and only think about themselves. That is, if Glenn is still alive.

2. Oliver and Felicity - Arrow

Olicity forever
Felicity and Oliver were destined for a fairytale ending, until an unfortunate lie put an abrupt end to it all. Whether Oliver was right or wrong when it came to to telling Felicity about William and whether Felicity was right or wrong for dumping him because of it is an argument for the ages. The important thing is that these two belong together, and we think a little “just the two of us” vacation will go a long way to restoring the “happily ever after” ending this couple deserves.

3. Claire and Jamie - Outlander

Claire and jamie outlander
Jamie and Claire’s love is stronger than ever, but this couple really needs a break. Trying to change the course of history has proved to be a grueling adventure. They have suffered through tragedy after tragedy, yet they continue to carry on. No one can keep up that kind of pace forever. A few days away where they can ravish each other with their undying love will do wonders for this wonder couple.

4. Magnus and Alec - Shadowhunters

Malec is a sure thing
These two lovebirds were attracted to each other the minute they met. Alec couldn’t accept his feelings for the High Warlock of Brooklyn and pushed Magnus away until Isabelle stepped in. Even though the couple shared an epic kiss, they still haven’t gone on a first date. Alec is still unsure, but give this couple a short getaway and their love will be a sure thing.

5. Liz and Tom - The Blacklist

Liz and tom the blacklist
It’s been a hard road for this couple: marriage, divorce, re-marriage, baby, and everything horrible imaginable in between. Just when it looked like they were going to have a super happy ending, Liz gets kidnapped and Tom and the baby disappear. If anyone needs a break, it’s these two. Once this current conflict gets resolved they need to find a good babysitter and take off for parts unknown.

6. Rhonda and Andre - Empire

Rhonda and andre empire
How this couple ever got together in the first place is anyone’s guess, but their love for each other is indisputable. These two have gone through hell and back with Andre’s mental illness and his crazy family. The recent loss of their unborn child added an insurmountable grief to their already troubled lives. If Rhonda didn’t die in her epic fight with Anika, her and Andre need to take the first flight out to somewhere romantic and serene and let their troubles fade away with the sunset.

TV shows are known for having a lot of drama.

There's times when the drama gets a little too much for some characters and they lash out.

It's their way of venting their frustration.

We've compiled some of the best slaps on television.

1. Momma Vanderwaal Slaps Alison - Pretty Little Liars

Miss vanderwaal slaps alison pretty little liars
Remember when everyone thought Mona was dead and that Ali killed her? It was only a matter of time before someone slapped Alison, but I kind of felt sorry for her.

2. Victoria Lays Down The Law - Revenge

Victoria lays down the law revenge
Revenge was known for showing the glitz and glamour of The Hamptons, but it was also great at showing just how much Victoria Grayson loved to make everyone listen to her every word.

3. Tyrion Slaps Joffrey - Game of Thrones

Tyrion slaps joffrey game of thrones
Joffrey was always a wicked person, so viewers worldwide LOVED when his uncle Tyrion gave him a good old Westeros slap.

4. Sutton Slaps Emma - The Lying Game

Sutton slaps emma the lying game
Remember The Lying Game? It was better then Pretty Little Liars, but got cut short in Season 2. Sutton was not impressed with Emma stepping into her life for too long.

5. Santana Slaps Finn - Glee

Santana slaps finn glee
Santana and Finn made a cute couple, but Santana was not someone to be messed with.

6. Elena Slaps Stefan - The Vampire Diaries

Elena slaps stefan the vampire diaries
Elena loves slapping the Salvatore brothers. Stefan may not have been in the right frame of mind, but Elena seemed to think the back of her hand would knock some sense into him.

21 Shows with Serious Girl Power

$

10 TV Fight Scenes That Left Us Gasping for Breath

Goodie for you, because that's just what we're going to deliver.

In what is being touted as the last chance for the girls to "get it right," we get glimpses of each of the girls just going about their lives.

It seems a broken marriage won't kill the professional relationship between Marnie and Desi, and you can see how happy it makes Hannah to be a part of their lives.

Something makes Shosh freak out in an elevator with Elijah, the latter who is later either taking a dance class or auditioning for something.

Hannah appears up for boogie boarding, something that should be fun to watch.

Adam and Jessa are still going strong, and look a lot happier than we last saw them. Thank goodness.

There's a brief check in with Ray before we get down to business.

Hannah has not yet made her mark on New York City. But she's made so many wonder friendships, Elijah points out.

They both burst into laughter. That's not a thing.

They still have plenty of time to make their marks, and it's pretty unlikely we'll see them do it. I just hope we leave them all in a place of understanding and with a little less floundering than they've done in the past, you know?

Rub a dub dub…

Who doesn’t love a hot soak in a tub, maybe with some bubbles…maybe with a partner?

Whether these characters were taking a relaxing soak, indulging in a glass of wine while submerged in suds, or getting a sensual sponge down, these were the scenes that were filled with soapy goodness we'll always remember.

You may not have realized it but sometimes the most memorable moments wind up being in the bath. It could be an intimate encounter or something far more horrific, but we promise one thing, these are the baths that fans will never forget.

Check out these 13 Top Bathtub scenes on TV.

1. Kate Beckett - Castle

Kate beckett castle
Kate Beckett had two bathtub scenes on Castle. The first one was when she leisurely took a warm bath to drink some wine and enjoy a good book…specifically Richard Castle's Nikki Heat. Her second bath wasn't nearly as pleasant. When a serial killer blew up her apartment, Beckett dove into the tub while wearing a towel. This time Castle came to her rescue and, despite his protestations, we're pretty sure he saw her naked.

2. Louis Litt - Suits

Louis litt suits
Louis Litt can be as lovable as he is infuriating, but there's no doubt that he's eccentric. It's not every man who not only openly revels in a good mud bath, but invites all of his friends to join in whenever possible. Do you mud? Louis sure does and we love it!

3. Ernie - Sesame Street

Ernie sesame street
This is probably almost everyone's very first memory of a TV character taking a bath, and it even included bubbles! Thanks to Sesame Street, we'll always have the words, “Rubber Duckie, you're the one,” in our heads and in our hearts.

4. Captain Ross Poldark - Poldark

Captain ross poldark poldark
Captain Ross Poldark. Nude. In a bath. Besides a fire. Want more? How about if he also gets sponged down at the hands of his wife Demeiza? For fans who were already clamoring for more scenes with Poldark shirtless, this bath sent viewers' heart rates into overdrive.

5. Shelly Pfefferman - Transparent

Shelly pfefferman transparent
Maura and Shelly's steamy bathroom encounter was one of the most pivotal of the series. Although the intimacy of the scene was crucial to the story, actress Judith Light found the moment daunting to play. But in the end she decided the scene was, “giving us a view into another portion of our society … the way we think about people who are mature. They're not dead, they have passion and connection and complication.”

6. Chandler Bing - Friends

Chandler bing friends
Chandler Bing thinks he hates baths. Well, he likes taking baths with Monica, but that's only because of "the wet, naked lady" in the bath with him. Monica swears he'd like one on his own, so she draws him a bath…and he loves it! But when he tries to replicate the experience he gets it all wrong, so the next time Monica draws a bath for herself, Chandler jumps in and steals it for himself. But he's not alone for long, as everyone bursts in to tell him that Ross and Rachel are having a girl!
